These particles embed themselves in the fibers of the textile and act like sandpaper, abrading them over time. This can cause discoloration, a worn-down or matted appearance, and eventually, the need to find replacement rugs.

Modernistic recommends having your area rugs cleaned twice a year, to maintain their appearance and extend the life of these special statement pieces. We offer different options for area rug cleaning:
- In-Home Area Rug Cleaning. This service is performed using our hot water extraction system. In some circumstances, we can clean the rugs in place and in others we recommend moving them to another spot in your home to perform the cleaning. This will be determined by your technician at the time of the service based on the backing of the rug and the flooring underneath.
- In-Plant Area Rug Washing. Available in the Metro Detroit Area only, our Rugology plant offers a boutique rug washing system for the most precious rugs. Read about the Rugology process here.
