Until Help Arrives
Tip 1: Safety First!
Call the fire department and get tenants / employees to a safe location. Do not enter the impacted areas of your facility until a structural engineer has deemed the area safe to enter.
Tip 2: Call Modernistic
We will respond quickly to care for your facility while you tend to matters that allow business operations to continue. Our mitigation protocols will limit further damage and reduce eventual repair costs.
Tip 3: Secure the Property
After the fire has been extinguished, limit exposure to the elements, critters, or unauthorized occupants, boarding up and tarping any area that is a potential entry point.
Tip 4: Limit Movement in Impacted Areas
If you allow traffic into and out of the affected area, it will result in the transfer of soot particles to unaffected parts of your facility. This will increase damage and restoration costs. Containment is key.
Tip 5: Determine Occupancy
Can employees or tenants safely remain in the facility? If not, determine a temporary relocation plan. Some insurance policies allot for funds for this exact measure to be taken. Check with your agent to see if this is included in your policy.
Tip 6: Prevent Additional Damage
Do not try to wipe or wash walls, or clean electrical appliances. Extreme caution and restorative best practices must be employed to recover your building and its contents. Not following these practices could lead to secondary damage.
Tip 7: Documentation Is Key
Do not throw anything away, even if unsalvageable, as you may want to provide a detailed inventory of items to insurance. If contracted to do, Modernistic will provide a detailed inventory of which items can and cannot be salvaged.
