Here at Modernistic, we enjoy challenges. So when a fire destroyed a 1850s farm house in Plainwell, we didn’t shy away from the opportunity to bring it back to life! The fire and smoke ravaged the interior and exterior of the 160+ year old home, necessitating extensive and complex repairs. Aside from odor control, proper framing, soot removal, soda blasting, and other normal fire restoration procedures, the age of the structure brought additional challenges. The mixture of outdated construction principles (like balloon framing) and materials (like plaster walls) and bringing everything up to code added complexity to the process, which is what Modernistic is routinely called upon to fix! Using modern materials and construction methods, we were able to match the antique style and look of the home in its pre-loss condition, creating a very happy customer.
