With the winter season comes the season for making fires. If you have somewhere to make a real fire, soot can be a major issue, whether it be on your clothes or carpeting. If carpeting is near your fireplace, soot can get into the fibers easily. To remove it, use a crevice tool on your vacuum. This won’t necessarily remove all of the soot, so if there is some remaining, your best bet would be to use rubbing alcohol. Using a white cotton rag, gently rub the rubbing alcohol on the stain. Be sure to not let the rubbing alcohol drip into the fibers, because it could damage the backing of the carpeting.
Continue doing this until the stain is gone, and use a solution of warm water and dish detergent to gently wash away the alcohol. Rinse with water, and blot it up.

Kids are messy. They are even messier when they get into your nail polish collection. If one of those rug rats has spilled nail polish on your carpeting, it can be quite the stain. The key to any stain is to understand its chemical composition, and how to combat it.
The logical solution to removing any nail polish would be to use acetone nail polish remover. But is this safe for your carpeting? Usually, it is. However because acetone is so strong, it can also ruin the carpeting you are trying to clean, so as with any chemical treatment, do a spot check in an inconspicuous spot to make sure the chemical is safe to use. Otherwise the acetone could really ruin your carpeting, more so than the actual nail polish.
If the acetone nail polish remover does not work, physical means such as scrubbing with detergents is a way to go. Keep in mind to use lots of water to keep the stain moist. The more wet the stain, the easier it is to pick up. Hair spray and rubbing alcohol are old tricks to keep the stain wet as well.

The carpeting in your home needs to be vacuumed once a week, and more often if the carpet is in a place where there is heavy traffic. If you vacuum, this will prevent particles from building up. It may seem time consuming, however every few weeks, take the time to clean around the baseboards and all other places that are difficult to reach.
When vacuuming, divide the floor into sections, and make sure that you go over each section several times. This is because one pass with a regular upright vacuum is just not enough, so be sure to work slowly to allow the suction to remove all dirt particles.
To fight odors, put some baking soda into the bag.
If your carpeting still isn’t looking its best, get it professionally cleaned with us at Modernistic.

Apply a solution of ½ teaspoon mild detergent with a pint of water, and blot at the stain with a white towel. If the stain remains, apply a half and half solution of water and white vinegar

Your upholstered furniture is a huge investment, and it should be treated as so. One of the best ways of keeping your upholstered furniture clean is to vacuum it regularly! The surface dust will be removed, which is important because dust can react with anything spilled onto the fabric, to perhaps make the stain worse.
You may or may not know that most decorative fabrics are not intended to be washed. Just like ‘dry clean only’ clothes that you would never dream of throw into your washing machine, decorative fabrics should be cleaned by professionals as well. Furthermore, just because there is a zipper on your upholstered furniture, does not mean that it is washable. The zipper is usually for ease of stuffing the fabric.
Another way to keep your upholstery looking fresh, is to treat it with DuPont Telfon fabric protector, which is offered as a service by Modernistic.
Call Modernistic today to have your upholstered furniture cleaned and protected!

During all your holiday parties, you may find that some spills occurred when you weren’t looking. This could be a pain, especially if the stain has had time to sit and set into your carpeting.
If there was beer at your gathering, this is actually a simple set stain to pick up. If there is some remaining liquid, soak up as much as you can with a white cotton cloth. Then mix 1/3 cup white vinegar, with 2/3 cup of water in a spray bottle. Lightly spray the stain with the vinegar mixture, and blot up the moisture with a cloth, and continue doing so until you have used up the vinegar mixture. The vinegar will neutralize the stain, and remove the odor from your carpeting.
If you find that this tip hasn’t worked in your best interest, call Modernistic for a carpet cleaning!
