Q. Why does Modernistic clean with Truck Mounted Hot Water Extraction?
A. This is the only method classified as deep cleaning. It is the only method capable of removing soil deep in the fibers and does NOT leave behind dirt, cleaning agents or harsh smells. There is a large cleaning unit mounted inside the truck or van, which heats the cleaning solution to higher temperatures, jetting it into the carpet at a velocity beyond the capabilities of portable machines. Not only does Modernistic remove dirt and grime that is set deeper into the carpet, Modernistic machines extract 95% of the moisture leaving the carpet damp, not wet. This allows the carpet to dry quickly!

Q. Will Modernistic technicians move my furniture?
A. Yes, Modernistic will move most furniture – couches, chairs, loveseats, coffee tables, etc. We ask that small objects such as lamps, ashtrays, picture frames and important family treasures be removed before our technicians arrive. Technicians will carefully clean around delicate or large furniture (such as pianos or home entertainment centers). We will put protection beneath the legs of the furniture that we move.

Q. How often should I have my carpet professionally cleaned?
A. You should have all your carpeting cleaned at least once a year. Depending on your particular lifestyle (active family, children, pets, etc.), traffic areas may need to be cleaned more frequently. Tracked in dirt and soil settles deep into carpet and upholstery fibers, where it begins to act like sandpaper – eventually causing wear and unattractive traffic patterns to appear. Modernistic’s extraction method loosens and removes ground-in soil deep in the carpet and upholstery fibers, improving wear by fifty percent.

Q. Is there anything I should do before Modernistic shows up?
A. It’s a good idea to vacuum before we arrive and we appreciate if small objects could be picked up off the floor. We also ask that you remove breakables such as lamps, knick-knacks, family treasures, photo-frames and ashtrays. We will carefully move your furniture and put it back in place after the cleaning. Technicians will carefully clean around delicate or large furniture.

Q. Can I walk on my carpet right after it has been cleaned?
A. We recommend everyone stay off the carpet until it is dry. If you must walk on it, make sure your shoes or socks are clean and won’t bleed color onto the clean carpet (we suggest white socks be worn). Be careful when stepping from damp carpet to a hard surface to avoid slipping.

Q. What is your policy if I am not happy?
A. If you are not happy, Modernistic is not happy! We give our customers a seven-day guarantee. This means if you are not satisfied for any reason, we will come back and re-service the area at no charge.

Q. I have a baby and pets. Will the carpet cleaning harm them?
A. We recommend everyone stay off the carpet until it is dry. Modernistic uses non-toxic and biodegradable solutions that will not harm children or animals.

Q. How often should I have Scotchgard™ or Dupont Teflon® applied?
A. For optimum performance it is best to reapply after each cleaning. All traffic areas are different; even so, it is always suggested to add protection from one of these products. The most important thing to remember is that even with protection, carpets require regular vacuuming.

Q. Will cleaning remove the Scotchgard™ or Dupont Teflon® applied to my carpet or upholstery?
A. Only very aggressive cleaning could be a problem, but some wear is inevitable – traffic, stain-cleaning agents, and cleaning solutions will begin to remove the protection. This is why we recommend application with each cleaning.

Q. Is Dupont Teflon® appropriate for all fibers?
A. DuPont Teflon recommends the application of Teflon on all carpets and “water-safe” upholstery fabrics.

Q. Are you able to get pet odors and stains out?
A. To remove odors from carpet and upholstery, Modernistic technicians will pre-spray with an enzyme, clean, and treat with an encapsulant deodorizer. Urine can add or remove color from carpet and upholstery. The enzyme pre-treatment will break down surface discoloration, but may not always be successful in removing stains.
If the urine has gone into the padding, the padding will need to be removed, the floor cleaned and sealed, and then we would replace the padding before putting the carpet back down. A Modernistic Customer Care representative will be happy to assist you with scheduling an estimate.

Q. Do you put anything under my furniture to protect my carpet and upholstery after the carpet is cleaned?
A. Yes, we use protective Styrofoam blocks and plastic tabs to protect your carpet from rust or furniture stains. You should wait until your carpet is completely dry before removing them.

Q. How long do I have to leave my cushions propped after I have my upholstery cleaned?
A. You should leave everything in place – including the Styrofoam blocks and plastic tabs in between contacting surfaces – until the upholstery is dry. This will prevent color transfer. Twelve hours should be more than enough time.

Q. Do you use my water?
A. Most of our vans are equipped with water on board capabilities, however at times we replenish our supply at the customer’s home. If you need us to use only our water, please let us know and we will come prepared.

Q. Do you clean cars, SUV’s, and vans on site?
A. Yes, this service can be arranged. Please call Modernistic and speak to a Customer Care Representative, who will be happy to assist you.

Q. Can you reverse the effects of bleach on carpet?
A. Bleach creates a permanent color loss in the fibers of the carpet. Although a 100% color match cannot always be achieved, the appearance can be dramatically improved by one of our spot dye technicians.

Q. Do you repair carpet?
A. Yes, we have a carpet repair department. Some services offered are re-stretching and cut and patch. Cut and patch replaces small areas of carpet that have damage or are permanently discolored. The damaged carpet is replaced by a piece of like carpet. Please call our Customer Care Department and ask to speak with our repairs representative.

Q. Do you clean up and restore fire damage?
A. Yes, Modernistic will send out a representative to access the damage and give you a written estimate for the cleaning and repair.

Q. Do you clean air ducts?
A. At this time not all Modernistic locations offer this service. However, our Kalamazoo and Grand Rapid offices do! In the future all Modernistic locations may offer this service, so keep checking back to this web site.
